Community Engagement Programme and Residency
Museu Joaquim Correia & Casa Museu Afonso Lopes Viera
As part of the exhibition ‘Desenrascanço’, at Museum Joaquim Correia, I was invited alongside the collective Melt Club for a week long residency at Casa Museu Afonso Lopes Vieria. During this time we delivered a community engagement programme, consisting of a series of workshops and talks.
As part of the programme we ran sessions with around 200 children; inspired to recreate the lost forest of Pinhal de Leira, each child contributed a ‘tree’ to a textile installation, drawing on the collaborative principles and processes applied by Melt Club. The textile piece remains on display as part of the museum’s permanent collection. Throughout our time in the area we were also able to explore the remains of the forest, which was such a key element of our research.
